The
Rocks is a very popular destination in Sydney,
soaked in Australian History, Culture & Charm.
The Rocks is located at the southern end of the
Sydney Harbour Bridge and on West side of Sydney
Cove & Circular Quay.
The Rocks is always a busy hive of activity as
a place of business as well as one of Australia
most visit tourist destinations. The Rocks has
many cafes and restaurants and interesting tourist
shops, art galleries and its own regular saturday
markets.
If you are new to Sydney and would like to explore
The Rocks region The Sydney Visitor Centre, at
106 George Street is a great place to start; free
information, tourist brochures and guides are
available also Australian souvenirs and momentos
are for sale.
Regular organised, & self guided walking tours
are available. The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority
publishes a very handy booklet called The Rocks
Self-Guided Walking Tour, which can guide you
to 31 places of historical interest as part of
a local heritage walk. This booklet can be bought
at The Sydney Visitor Centre for $1.00.
There
is always entertainment on in the Rocks, especially
on the weekends and at special event times, quite
often there free entertainment & performances,
outdoor concerts and street theatre. Many of the
pubs in the rocks have regular live music gigs
through the week - jazz, rock, folk, dance &
pop.
The Rocks Market operates every weekend, from
10am to 5pm each day, and until 6pm in summer
months. Over 150 stalls are set up under a series
of sail-like canopies that run up George Street
towards the Harbour Bridge. The stalls are filled
with a wide range of Australian handmade gifts,
jewellery, foods, homewares, collectibles and
much more.
